AANHPI History Month

 

About

The University of Utah celebrates AANHPI Heritage Month (Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month) annually in April to honor the contributions, culture, and history of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities and their allies. This year, the national theme is "A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience." Read more about the theme here.

Purpose

  • Create Awareness: Educate the broader campus community about the rich and diverse history of AANHPI communities
  • Foster Inclusion: Encourage all students to appreciate the significance of AANHPI contributions, promoting connection and respect
  • Strengthen Community Bonds: Build relationships among AANHPI students, staff, faculty, and allies, providing a network of support and advocacy
  • Promote Social Change: Advocate for positive change on campus and beyond in areas of leadership & resilience, mental health, and more educational investment for AANHPI cultures and communities

Audience

University students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of our off-campus community interested in community building, cultural education, and cultural celebration.

AANHPI Heritage Month Craft Night

Time: 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Location: TBD

Hosted by: CCE

Description: Start your AANHPI Heritage Month celebrations off with an afternoon of socializing and crafts with roots in various AANHPI cultures and communities, April 7th from 2:00-4:00pm in the Union Treehouse (293)! Come craft, connect with community, and learn about the history of Lei making, leadership, and resilience from guest speaker Fanetupoupaluvav'u (Fane) Harris.

Solidarity Forums: AANHPI Student Panel

Time: 12:30 – 2:00 PM

Location: Union Treehouse (293)

Hosted by: CCE

Description:  Join us on Wednesday, April 16th from 12:30pm-2:00pm in the Union Treehouse (Union 293) for our final Solidarity Forum of the semester. We will have a student panel with AANHPI student leaders to discuss the month's theme of leadership and resilience. Food and drink will be provided!
